Mpumalanga puts out tenders for convention centre
Mpumalanga is set to get its own international convention centre (ICC) after the provincial government announced it was pushing ahead with the plan.
The ICC project is one of the seven priority projects under the Maputo Development Corridor (MDC) initiative that were announced by Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla in December.
The seven spatial development projects are designed to ensure that more investment is made in the region.
The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (Mega) has now put out tenders to appoint both a transaction adviser and a project manager to oversee the development of the ICC, which will be built in the Mbombela area.
The provincial government is also hoping to build a recreational hub around the convention centre, including a canal, botanical gardens and a reptile park.
The ICC is being developed in partnership with Mega, the Lowveld Showground Society, the Mbombela Local Municipality and the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
The deadline for submission for both tenders closes on February 9.
